What’s the reason why my partner doesn’t want to put a label on the relationship? What’s the big deal about that? They should just understand that I don’t want to label it.

If you once found yourself asking either of these questions, then you are in the right place.

Putting labels on your romantic encounters is okay as long as you are open and honest about what you want on your romantic experiences. Without wasting time, below are reasons individuals don’t want to label relationships.

THEY COME WITH RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

Labels come with rules! The only way to have zero rules and expectations is to have no labels. Some individuals can’t spare even a little of their free time to be in a relationship at the moment. Do not forget that it is essential not to force a relationship if both parties are not committed.

Dating: it is very unlikely for this to happen with the dating label. There is very little to commit with the definition of dating, but there is a loss of freedom that you might not be interested in.

In a relationship: when you get into the relationship label, there is a high chance of one or both parties feeling the fear of commitment. At this point, you want to be loyal to them since you are not allowed to see other people.

Marriage: Marriage is all about commitment. This is a stage that several individuals are always afraid of. It is considered a big step when one commits the rest of their life to someone. I can’t even imagine that at the moment. You don’t have to be together forever. But it is the hardest stage to get out of so it makes sense when people become hesitant.

THEY SEND A MESSAGE TO EVERYONE

Without the presence of a label, you are just two individuals that happen to spend a good amount of time together. Your friends make fun of you but they don’t know anything about your relationship unless you inform them. This will transform when you choose to label it because now individuals outside the relationship have expectations.

Dating: some individuals might want to know things about the fact that you are dating. When did you meet? How serious is it?  Where you are going tonight. Your friends may also try to see how you react by poking you.

In a relationship: this is just the same as dating stage but now it’s not only your friends. Your family also wants to be involved in the relationship. When are we going to meet your girlfriend/boyfriend?

Your friends may also ask you about the things you do together. Like having sex.

That’s none of your business!

Marriage: This is the one that’s frequently seen. You wear a ring to show the whole world! People usually have advice and questions for individuals who are married. Immediately you tell everyone you are married, they become experts. Everybody will now be telling you what you are doing wrong and how you can fix it.
